Southern New England Weddings Feature - Narragansett Bay provides backdrop for nautical Coast Guard wedding

For Nicholas Fredericksen and Alexandra Lori, tying the knot at the Newport Officers’ Club offered both elegance and meaning. The venue, which sits on the rocky shoreline of Narragansett Bay and includes sweeping views of the Newport Bridge, Jamestown and surrounding islands, enabled the couple to celebrate Nicholas’ career in the Coast Guard and fulfilled their desire for oceanside nuptials.
Nicholas, dressed in his crisp white Coast Guard uniform, and Alexandra, in a dramatic floor-length gown, stood before 110 guests and exchanged vows beneath a white arbor that was crowned with ivory rhododendrons and accented with pale pink roses and sprigs of pale green vines and flowers. The ceremony concluded with a celebratory saber salute by Nicholas’ peers.
Following the ceremony, the couple and their guests gathered in the ballroom for the reception, which featured tables adorned with centerpieces designed by Sayles Livingston Flowers. The floral displays were complemented by navy-and-white menus, traditional glassware and framed table numbers.
In addition to the couple’s first dance, memorable moments included DJ John Zucco of the Entertainment Specialists asking married couples to hit the dance floor for an anniversary dance. As Alexandra watched Nicholas’ grandparents sway to the music, she realized it was the highlight of the evening.
“The songs were ‘Can I Have This Dance’ and ‘Through the Years’ and Nick’s grandparents were the last ones standing,” she remembers. “His grandmother passed away shortly after our wedding so that stands out as a beautiful moment.”
