There is no substitute for the live performance of music by a tight,
cookin' band. Chris Waller
Chris Waller, an in demand studio and performance vocalist,
brings his 20 years of show business experience to our stage.
His first album Love Moods, recorded with his brothers and sisters,
the Waller Family, enjoyed regional and national success on the
R&B charts. His vocal talent can also be heard on House Full
of Love sound track from the Bill Cosby Show. As a reward for
the Waller Family's good will and recognition, the mayor of Richmond
Virginia has proclaimed August 3rd, Waller Family Day.
Since 1992, Chris has become a highly sought after vocal teacher
and clinician. He has worked with Maurice Starr Productions and
taught and worked with Bobby Brown for his 1992 Humping Around
Tour as a vocal coach, and also worked in the company of Whitney
Houston, Boyz to Men and TLC. Also during this time Chris performed
as a solo artist and made feature performances with different
local bands in the Boston area.
In 1996, he had the pleasure of singing lead for Herb Reed and
the Platters. Chris's experience in the entertainment industry
is virtually unlimited.
Maylyn Murphy
Maylyn's
sultry and bluesy torch-singer style makes her one of today's
great jazz-pop vocalists and pianists, with an innate sensuality
reminiscent of Norah Jones and Diana Krall. But the richness
of Maylyn's voice and interpretation, showcased here on 4 new
standard arrangements and 4 originals, harkens back to a culturally
diverse childhood.
Before Maylyn was 10 years old, she lived around the world,
learning Tagalog in the Philippines, Japanese in Yokohama and
English in a small town in California. She had learned the power
of her voice to reach out to those around her, but it wasn't
quite enough to sing superbly in 3 different languages. When
she was 4, Maylyn taught herself to play the piano, and begun
winning singing competitions in Japan where she attended high
school. At the same time, she competed on championship volleyball
and basketball teams in the Far East. Her musical talent, athleticism,
and beauty paved the way for a myriad of opportunities for Maylyn,
but her first passion was music. Although her family stayed in
Japan, Maylyn felt she needed to go back to the United States
to pursue her dream as a professional musician. After all, America
was home to her most beloved musical influences - Sade, Billie
Holiday, Carmen McRae, and Stevie Wonder.
When she was 18, Maylyn had to make a choice about her future.
She could attend Tennessee State University on a basketball scholarship,
or go to one of the best music schools in the world. The choice
was clear. Maylyn received her Bachelors of Music from Berklee
College of Music in Boston. There she expanded her classical
talents, working with local musicians and performing with some
of the biggest names in the industry, like Pattie LaBelle, Usher,
Lil' Kim, Kim Burrell, and P. Diddy. After graduation, she pursued
her singer/songwriter career, and took part-time jobs singing
with local bands, modeling part-time for MTM agency, and hosting
a local television show called International Rhythms.
In My Life is her first full-length album, produced by renowned
jazz musician and composer, Miles Donahue.
